Addressed to Commander-in-Chief No. 6.

My telegram No. 1791 to Foreign Office.

Japanese Minister is informed by his govern-

ment that Commander of Makou Pescadores naval

station has been instructed to cause Uji chiefly

to patrol Bias bay in co-operation with British

men-of-war and to despatch in case of necessity one

or two destroyers to assist Ujl."

I presume you will arrange any necessary

details.

I am anxious for political reasons that we

should show that we welcome this concrete evidence

of Anglo-Japanese co-operation.

Repeated to Foreign Office No. 8, Canton,

Hongkong and Tokyo.
